Martins Bank 1928+

Sep 1.jpg

In the late 1960s Martins Bank Bramhall is given two new sub branches, one at Cheadle Hulme in 1967, the other at Poynton in 1968.  The merger with Barclays sees the end of some Martins Branches due to the duplication of business in particular locations.

This fate befalls Cheadle Hulme, which although shiny and new is surplus to requirements, but Poynton has better luck, remaining a branch of Barclays until March 2011.   As a Martins branch, Poynton is not self accounting, but it does enjoy full banking hours, including Saturday mornings.  This would imply a brisk business from local traders and personal customers, and in this leaflet display from 1968, you can see that the branch staff are doing their best to attract new business.  The exterior of the branch is also attractive in design.  Note the use of the Grasshopper only on the outside of the building, as the Liver Bird is unfortunately removed from branding at this time…
