1920 HALCOM.jpgDewsbury Westgate seems to have been the poor relation to Dewsbury Market Place Branch.  Westgate is an original branch of the Halifax Commercial Bank, which merges with the Bank of Liverpool and Martins in 1920.  Market Place is a large office, belonging to the Lancashire and Yorkshire Bank until they join Martins in 1928.  We have had to research the employment history of our Dewsbury Staff, and only one of them turns out to have started work for the Halifax Commercial Bank.  The rest are “L & Y Men” or joined Martins after 1928.  As the staff database grown, we may be able to work out through, staff transfer details, the names of others who worked at Westgate. We have no date of closure, and  image of our branch, so if you can help with information or images of this or any of our other branches please do get in touch with us by clicking HERE .
