Jersey’s two sub branches, at Gorey and ST BRELADE are really good examples of the modern look that Martins achieves in the 1960s – they both look as if you could still just walk into them today - bright, clean lines and minimal architectural fuss. Neither of them is blessed with a visit from Martins Bank Magazine, although images of both are featured in a 1966 issue. Apart from the exterior photographs we hold for both Gorey and St Brelade, the main focus of the Bank’s interest seems only to have been on the main Jersey Branch at St Helier, and St Peter Port Branch on Guernsey. Gorey opens in 1964, and lasts as a Branch of Barclays until 1993. Today the words “Bank House” can still be seen on the front of this building, but the first business in the row is no longer a bank, but an estate agency…
