1928 L&Y.jpgAmongst the large stock of Manchester branches that come to us through the amalgamation of the Bank of Liverpool and Martins with the Lancashire and Yorkshire bank, are offices at both Manchester Corn Exchange, and Manchester Exchange.  Exchange does not last very long at all as a Martins branch, and is closed in 1929.  The Corn Exchange Branch is in a prominent position on the corner of Corporation Street and would most likely have remained a key branch in the City if it hadn’t been for the Manchester Blitz which destroyed it at Christmas 1940.   Exchange Branch is listed in Kellys Directory for 1929, and the Manager is named as Mr F B Cocker.  From this we will asume six day opening and full branch status, although we are always looking for more details of our former branches.  We do have a numder of staff photos in our gallery below. If you can help with information or images of this or any of our branches, please do get in touch with us by clicking HERE.
