x Research |
|||
|
|
|||
|
|
More than twenty years of research
into Martins Bank means that our database of physical objects, images and
text runs to several thousand items and lines of text. Firstly we set about recording the name,
location and details of every branch and department both for Martins, and
Lewis’s Bank. This in turn links to
records of any images or artifacts held by the archive, so that as more
become available, individual branch and departmental records become more and
more complete. |

Resource Martins was at the forefront of so
much change in the 1960s, but not even they could have envisaged being able
to think of any question, type it in to a home computer and immediately be
faced with tens of thousands of answers. Whilst the internet has naturally
become everyone’s resource of choice, and has helped fill in the gaps, we are
also grateful for the generous assistance of the organisations and companies
listed below. Martins own printed
legacy - the books “Four Centuries of
Banking” – have also been an invaluable source of reference, along with the
unique snapshot of banking life provided by “Martins Bank Magazine”. Personal
memory – a scarce commodity forty years on – is also a unique way to help us
tell the story of the bank that at the height of its popularity and
prosperity disappeared from UK life forever.
This is why we will be delighted to feature your images and items from
the period, along with your memories to share with others. See also WELCOME |
