Where else but in the UK have we just celebrated
Christmas, followed by Easter, Pancake Day and Valentine’s Day and then
Easter again in the shops in that order? Sure as the sky is yellow, and the moon made
of cheese, we all hurtle another month forward into 2012, wondering what day
it is, and who we are… Thank goodness for the latest edition of the GRASSHOPPER PENSIONERS’ CLUB NEWS , which was recently published, and is available
now on this site, along with previous editions. Thanks as usual to Ros and club members for
providing so many memories of Martins.

Look out for the “From
the Archive…” banner as it begins to appear throughout the site, usually to
highlight actual items from the archive in relation to the branches they come
from. For example, our recently
updated page for BURY branch has images from a Bury cheque book held in
the archive. We are also beginning to
catalogue images of items relating to the various constituent banks of
Martins – we are grateful to Dave Baldwin for supplying images of Craven Bank
memorabilia, and later in the year we will try to marry up the various
articles about the constituent banks that were published early in the life of
Martins Bank Magazine, with relevant items from the archive.

There are now 862 branches on the site, and about
thirty-five remain to be uploaded before the entire Branch Network, old and
new, is represented. We are currently looking
into the history of some of our oldest and short-lived outlets, in order to
produce a page for each one that will complete a task that has taken nearly
three years to realise. Thanks again
to everyone who has contributed memories and images, you know who you
are! Before work resumes on building
the staff database, we will be updating several hundred branch network pages
with staff images and features. There
are still a good number that need exterior or interior images, and Barclays
are continuing to go to extremes to be helpful with everything.

Finally, don’t miss our feature “Buy your own Bank” , which can be found
HERE and gives details
of the wonderful little cardboard modelling kits available from the
manufacturers in Skipton, North Yorkshire.
The model comprises Martins Bank Skipton and a shop next door, and you
can read about how the company picked our branch in order to resurrect this
model railway companion idea from the 1960s!
