The 1960s brings perhaps the most ambitious part of Martins’ expansion into a NATIONAL bank. Work commences on new builds, restorations, knock-down and re-builds, as well as plans for specialist branches such the Great Yorkshire Showground.

Martins also adds to its portfolio of Auction Mart (cattle market) and University Branches. Martins Bank’s sub-Branch at Billingham Queensway opens in July 1961 to little fanfare, and a very short article in that year’s Autumn edition of Martins Bank Magazine.We wonder if so many dignitaries would bother to attend the opening of a commercial venture in a town in the twenty-first Century?
