 These
premises have been acquired by Martins Bank…
  (…but
  not for long)
  It’s
1966, a year of optimism and World Cup Glory, and time for Martins Bank to
expand its empire into the South and West of England.

 Where better to consolidate
a portfolio of branches, than Cheltenham, classy, on the up, and surely ready
for its second branch of Martins bank?

 The branch interior is
finished to the high standards that Martins Bank expects from its
    architects and builders.  Upstairs,
all mod cons are laid on to make working in the 1960s office a
    pleasure.  The counter area is
furnished with Martins’ trademark selection of fine wood panelling,
anaglypta ceiling designs, feature lighting, and zebra-crossing style lino
    flooring.   |
    | Careful use of the
available space allows maximum room for customers, and an ample work area
for the counter staff.Cheltenham Montpelier is another of the branches for
which Barclays will have no need after the merger – to begin with the
branch is downgraded to a sub-Branch on 12 December 1969, and after less
than four years since first opening, the doors are closed for good on 1 May
    1970.  What a waste…
