Look through any window…
Windows,
like mirrors, can sometimes reflect bits of everyday life that otherwise go
unnoticed, or become lost in history.
Here at Burnley Colne Road in 1969, the windows of the branch are
particularly clean, and give us a tiny glimpse into 1960s sales culture –
long before the days of the warehouse style “retail outlets” that have grown
like a rash over our towns and cities, Burnley’s Discount Shoes is showing us
a simple message – shoes, at a discount – exactly what it says on the shop!
Colne Road is another of Craven District’s very appealing branches. Barclays
moved to 124 Colne Road in 1977, and that particular branch closed in 2015. |
