The Bank of Liverpool and Martins opens a branch at Ormskirk in
1922. Martins Bank opens a self
accounting sub-Branch at Skelmersdale in 1963. Ormskirk survives the merger
with Barclays, remaining open for a couple of years until being closed in
1972. For our feature, we have another
retirement write-up from Martins Bank Magazine; this time it is the turn of
Mr Roscoe, who at the time of his retirement in 1961 has been manager at
Ormskirk for fiteen years. The Martins Bank Staff database has an incredible
149 lines of information in his career profile, due largely to his prowess as
a green-fingered gardener in receipt of many many prizes for his efforts! Bob
bows out…
Highly respected and
known everywhere in the town, Mr. Roscoe
has been prominently identified with the
Ormskirk Amateur Operatic Society for many years and his work for
the Boy Scout Movement in Ormskirk as Scoutmaster and District Commissioner has been recognised by Imperial Headquarters who have conferred upon him first
the Medal of Merit and then the coveted Silver Acorn. |
