In Martins Bank’s time, Gisburn is a sub-Branch to Clitheroe, but this was not always so. The last set of partners
to run the Craven Bank decide in 1880 that incorporation is the only way to
go, and the Craven Bank Limited is born.
At this time the structure
of branches is different to the way in which it will be organised after the Craven Branches become part of Martins
Bank. Thus Gisburn is a sub branch to Skipton, and
Clitheroe isn’t yet a
full branch, being a satellite to
Burnley.
If you can tell us what this
building is used for nowadays, please get in touch as the usual address – martinsbankarchive@btinternet.com. In 1969 Martins Bank magazine visits Clitheroe Branch and meets a member of the staff who
regularly mans the counters of the Bank’s sub branches at Gisburn and
Chatburn… |
